an interview with tristan moseby
Until a few years ago, not many knew who Tristan Moseby was. The son of a US Senator, he has only recently been noticed for his talent as an actor. The 28-year-old, who has been acting for a decade, is determined to make a name for himself as an actor and not as his mother's son. This year alone, he has starred in two movies, guest-starred on a television show, done some voice work and a video for the ever hilarious Funny or Die and even managed to make the time to tame one of Hollywood's most beautiful women. How does he do it? That's what we're going to find out!

He got his start on the television series "Gilmore Girls", in which he played a character that he claims was named for him, Tristan Dugrey. The role lasted eleven episodes. "My mother did not like me balancing work with school, so I had to leave that behind for a while," he tells us, a bit of bitterness evident in his tone. "I went back to Columbia, which was great, since Dean [Emerton] was there with me, focused on my acting degree, and that was that."

And after he obtained his degree, he packed up and left the east coast to head for Los Angeles. "Best decision I have ever made," he says, quite confidently. By 2007, he had a few supporting roles under his belt and felt like he was starting to be taken more seriously in the audition room. His starring role in the film Stardust, he says is what jump-started his acting career. "I was patient," he says, "I didn't get greedy, desperate for stardom, the usual stuff you deal with. I always told myself I was doing this because it was fun, because I loved it, and so it never bothered me that I wasn't 'famous'." He shrugs and goes on to add, "I guess being in the spotlight with my mother's career kind of had something to do with that."

His family life has been complicated, and he reveals that he and his mother have not been close in years. Could that have something to do with the recent reveal that he is the result of an affair with Senator Ron Emerton of New York? "I don't really like to think about it, but yeah, it was a huge blow. Imagine if you found out your best friend since childhood was your brother and your father wasn't actually your father. We'll just leave it there."

Despite everything, Moseby is still looking to the future. He is in a steady relationship with the ever beautiful ("and funny," he adds) Arelys Mariano, and his career is booming. This year, we saw him as one of Ramona Flowers' seven evil exes in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, a 20-something religious highschooler in Easy A and even a hippie hackysack player in the freshmen comedy "Community". "Despite some things, this year has been one of the best I've had. I am enjoying every minute of it, and I can definitely say I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love who I am, what I do and the people I associate with. As Vaughn would say, no worries."

As for what else he has in store for the future, he does not say much, other than he knows he will continue to act to the best of his ability. "I have a few projects lined up, yeah, but I can't really say much about them." There are also rumors that he will be starring in the film adaptation of the video game Mass Effect (he voiced the pilot, Joker, in the games), but he claims that he "can neither confirm nor deny that rumor". He grins and adds, "Always leave your audience wanting more."
